On 5th February 2025, BBC News published an article about the terrorist mass-shooting in Sweden, in which the main image used was of a person of colour instead of the alleged perpetrator, a white Swedish male with a far right background.

The picture used by the BBC was of Ismael Moradi, a Kurdish immigrant to Sweden, who is a student at a school next to the adult learning centre that was attacked by Rickard Andersson, whose picture or image wasn’t even mentioned or used by the BBC.

The sensationalist framing and use of Moradi’s photo—removing the flowers he held for the victims, have caused widespread confusion, leading people to wrongly assume he was responsible for the attack.
With the Rafi Berg affair and the accusations of a deeply racist/ islamophobic entrenchment of beliefs among the leadership at the BBC refusing to go away, we do not see this as a isolated mistake but part of a larger pattern in media coverage that perpetuates racial bias.

With the current situation in the UK and last summer’s race riots fresh in the memory, it is clear that this a deliberate attempt at misinformation and propaganda by a BBC article that is meant to play the role of an impartial observer and to report events without any bias. As a public funded body, that you, the reader funds through the BBC license, you cannot allow the BBC to get away with such potentially damaging reporting without any consequence.
