ACTION ALERT: DEMAND TO MAKE IT COMPULSORY FOR SCHOOLS TO TEACH UK’S COLONIAL PAST

After the Black Lives Matter protests there has been a push to create anti-racism changes in society. There has also been a backlash from mainstream society.

One of the major reasons there is backlash in addressing the UK’s colonial history is because that part of history is completely omitted in UK schools.

Making British people more aware of their history would make all of us more comfortable talking about racism and Islamophobia.

It would also make it easier to campaign for anti-colonial and anti-racist demands to help create a better society.

A government petition demanding that UK makes it compulsory to teach the UK’s colonial past is now live. If it hits 100,000 signatures, it can schedule as a debate in Parliament, raising the profile of this issue significantly and help us push for this much needed change.

*ACT NOW*

1) SIGN the petition
2) SHARE it among your contact and on your social media.

UPDATE:- 21/06/2020
The petition has nearly surpassed 250k signatures over the weekend.

However, we are still waiting for the government to respond and for a Parliamentary debate to be scheduled. We will update once these two things have been decided.

Update:- 16/07/2020
The Petition Committee has ruled that the Government’s response to this petition is inadequate and must submit another response.
