Two Tory Councillors have been reported by Buzzfeed of making repeated anti-Muslim comments publicly.

Nick Coultish, elected to East Riding council earlier this month, compared “the tide of Islam” in the UK to Nazis’ bombarding of Britain.

In another tweet he wrote: “Quote of the day: ‘There are two forces killing our people and our citizens: Islam and political correctness.'”

John Moss, a Tory councillor in Waltham Forest, suggested that “every 11 year-old girl” should be scared of Islam.

Moss has also tweeted: “I reject Islam’s barbarism, its sexism, its racism, its homophobia” and said: “According to Islam, women are chattels, either to their fathers or husbands. They have no liberty.”

Buzzfeed forwarded the evidence to Tory Party HQ, who stated they would investigate but did not suspend them.

It’s a well known fact that Islamophobia and racism is rife within the Tory Party. Party chairman, Brandon Lewis, has vowed to take a “zero tolerance” stance on Islamophobia. Yet, the party refused to acknowledge that Islamophobia is a form of racism earlier this year.

If Brandon Lewis truly stands by his word, he should kick them out of the party.

Dear Mr Brandon Lewis,

I am writing to you in response to the recent news of two Conservative Party councillors who have made public offensive comments about Islam and Muslims.

Earlier this year, you stated you will ensure there is a “zero tolerance” policy on Islamophobia and anti-Muslim hatred. There has repeatedly been incidents where Islamophobic Conservative politicians have made Islamophobic remarks and very little has been done about it.

Infact, it is clear that the minimal measures have not stopped Islamophobic behaviour, but has emboldened other Conservative politicians to behave in such a manner more unashamedly than ever before.

This is certainly the case when it comes Nick Coltish and John Moss.

Needless to say, the Conservative Party needs Muslim voters in at least 30 Parliamentary seats to ensure they have some hope in staying in power. Incidents like this will only make the party’s position weaker for many decades to come.

Serious action needs to be taken. It is for the reasons above the party should kick both Nick Coltish and John Moss out of the party and set a real consequence for others and restore some faith back into the party again.
