Over the last few weeks MPACUK has been asking Mufti Abu Layth to explain his alleged links to Usama Hasan – who is part of the Quilliam Foundation*.

From his signing of Usama Hasan’s fatwa, to his close links to Rashad Ali (former founder of Quilliam, now involved with the Islamophobic ‘Henry Jackson Society’), we have been asking the Mufti very simple questions that many are demanding answers to – the Mufti has so far ignored these questions.

Recently we have been passed documents by someone closely associated to the Mufti.

The documents show that Usama Hasan allegedly wrote a character reference for the Mufti’s court case earlier this year. The documents are attached below.

We have contacted legal experts who have told us that the document seems authentic.

We have also contacted Usama Hasan & Quilliam to confirm that this is the character reference Usama Hasan wrote for the Mufti but they have chosen to not respond.

This isn’t about why the Mufti was on trial or why he was jailed, but rather it’s to do with why is the Mufti apparently so close to key figures in the Islamophobia Industry.

There are some pressing questions which the Mufti must answer:

1. You said you have had “no association” with Quilliam or its members since leaving in 2008 – how do you then explain Usama Hasan writing that he has met you several times? (and how do you explain the other inconsistencies that Raza has highlighted)
2. Why did you go to Usama Hasan, of the Quilliam Foundation, for a character reference?
3. Can you now please explain your links to Quilliam Foundation – specifically to Usama Hasan & Rashad Ali?

Mufti Abu Layth has so far chosen to ignore our questions but we hope that this document will lead to him FINALLY explaining his links to Usama Hasan, Rashad Ali & Quilliam.

*Quilliam, well known for being part of the Islamophobia Industry, recently smeared MPACUK’s Raza Nadim as an “extremist individual” on a student-monitoring software. MPACUK ran a campaign against the software company which led to them apologising to us and deleting the names of all other Muslims from their “extremist individuals” list.
