Last week Public Health England asked Trevor Phillips to provide expert support into an inquiry as to why increasing numbers of victims of the coronavirus pandemic are from BAME backgrounds.

Trevor Phillips is the WRONG person to investigate BAME victims of CoViD-19 for 3 main reasons.

1) Phillips had been suspended from the Labour Party, following allegations of Islamophobia. He has said that Muslims are “a nation within a nation”, and Muslims adopting a non-Muslim is akin to child abuse.

2) The government will PAY Phillips to use his company’s software, which could affect impartiality of conclusions drawn.

3) The software ascertains a person’s ‘ethnic or cultural origin’ by analysing their names only.

Over two-thirds of NHS staff who have died fighting the spread of CoViD-19 were BAME, so this investigation will have a direct impact on the national effort against the disease.

Doctors & politicans have spoken out against Phillips’ appointment. We must ensure this issue is not whitewashed, and appoint a trusted investigator.

CAMPAIGN SUCCESS: 29/05/2020:

Public Health England (PHE) confirmed that the report “has been undertaken by PHE scientists alone,” and that their relationship with Trevor Phillips “may be considered in future after publication of the PHE review.”

The PHE has tried to save face here, but it is clear that they have preferred to drop Trevor Phillips, rather than cause more outrage and dismay over their report. This is a success for everyone who spoke out and took action on this issue. Thank you.
