Western Values – what justice?
Justice for all is one of the measures of a civilised country or people. When a country practices equality for all races, religions, and backgrounds of people, we can assume that it is generally a safe country to reside in.
The West prides itself as the beacon of justice and equality, however as information about world events can be found on the tips of your fingers, this is proving more and more as a false perception. Consider the situation facing the people of Gaza, anyone with the faintest glimmer of a brain cell can see that the actions of the Zionist State constitute war crimes on an unprecedented scale.
Some analysts are stating that Gaza is a war zone, and innocent people are unfortunately killed as collateral damage. So, let’s take a look at a country which is not a war zone. Justice, as it turns out, doesn’t prevail for all, with Black Americans facing widespread and visible discrimination, stemming from a deeply entrenched history of systemic racism, economic inequality, and the enduring legacy of segregation and slavery, which continues to shape their social, political, and judicial realities to this day.
Marcellus Williams, an Afro- American was accused of taking someone else’s life, for which the sentence can be death. The evidence, the murder weapon, was found is his vehicle. However, the fingerprints on the murder weapon didn’t belong to him. After spending 23 years in prison for a crime in which, there was no evidence against him, he should have been released, with a huge amount of compensation being paid to him. As he was black this didn’t happen, and America murdered an innocent man on 24th September 2024. The real murderer is roaming the streets of America and walks as a free person.
The West can no longer claim to be beacons of justice and freedom.
Not only did they murder Williams, there are reports that they are torturing a woman in America’s prison system. Aafia Siddiqui; a civilian, mother, daughter, sister, and human being, was sentenced to 86 years in prison by a military court. Her case is not one of justice served, but of a justice system that failed her. Some have argued that she committed a crime, but we ask them: where is the concrete evidence? The truth is, there was no evidence tying her to the alleged crime. She is a civilian, so either prove she isn’t, or prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that she is guilty. They can’t—because the evidence simply does not exist.
The day Biden said he saw bodies of Israeli children killed, (in a statement that was later detracted by the White House), was the day America publicly exposed itself as beacons of injustice.
They say Muslims don’t share their values. And to that, we say: yes, we don’t share in their injustice, their oppression, or their disregard for human dignity. Our faith teaches us to stand up for the oppressed, to demand justice for the wronged, and to fight for equality. If their values include turning a blind eye to suffering, enabling systemic discrimination, and perpetuating cycles of violence and inequality, then no, we don’t share those values. Our values call for compassion, fairness, and a commitment to humanity—principles we will never compromise.
