Yet again, Muslims are scattered by pointless questions when only one matters: what can I do to help Palestine?

It doesn’t matter what your sect, madhhab or favourite nasheed is. Right now we are seeing Palestine resist its occupation by Israel, and differences must be put aside and we must talk to each other, instead of about each other.

But we have no time to waste. At time of writing 1,354 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza just since Saturday. Our renewed dialogue must not be spent on repeating the same old discussions that do not improve the situation in Palestine.

We must finally agree on the simple, yet important, fact that Muslims in the UK have a unique opportunity and responsibility to undermine Zionist politicians i.e those who loudly and proudly support everything that Israel does. It is these same politicians who excuse and normalise Israel’s illegal and oppressive occupation. Without this political fig leaf, Israel not only has nowhere to hide their atrocities – they won’t have suppliers to keep enabling them either.

Everything else that you might want to do in order to feel good about yourself – debates about attending protests, arguing against voting, even donating humanitarian aid after the damage is already done – all these are not much more than selfish acts of virtue signalling, if they are not also backed with efforts to build long lasting peace.

You have heard the excuses against political participation. You may have even said some yourself, whilst driving in your road-taxed car; or sitting in your council-taxed house; or on a shopping trip buying VAT-added luxuries; maybe even on your way out of your local masjid that had to pass the local council’s Planning regulations. The fact is that politics surrounds your daily actions anyway, so stop being an insincere coward and work with politics for the good of your Ummah.

Politics is already shaping your life. For the sake of your brothers & sisters in Islam, isn’t it time you shape it back?
