The West preaches democracy; in 2018, the people of Pakistan voted for and therefore chose Imran Khan to be Prime Minister of Pakistan.  The West preaches transparency; Imran Khan promised ‘strict accountability’. 

However, even though Khan has never been proven guilty of any charges levied against him in a court of law, in a country which has a history of corruption, he was ousted in a vote of no confidence in April 2022.

Why was this, when he has less than a year to go to complete his term and fresh elections would be required?  What was the urgency to get rid of him?

Khan said the US threatened him, and let’s face it, it wouldn’t have been the first time the US has been accused of toppling governments abroad.  Also, Khan’s “absolutely not’ comment, when asked In a news interview whether he would allow the CIA to enter into Pakistan to fight against ‘terrorism’, wouldn’t have won him any friends at the White House.

Khan proved that he wasn’t going to be in a submissive ‘yes sir, no sir’ relationship with the West, unlike previous leaders of Pakistan, whether they be civilian or military.  This may have been seen as a problem in the eyes of many.  The question that it being asked is, ‘is that why he was removed as PM?’.

Recently this widely loved, most popular democratically-elected leader of Pakistan was arrested.  Imran Khan blames the army for his arrest.  If this is true, then that would mean that the men employed to protect Pakistan are heavily involved in political corruption and bribery. 

When will this cycle of corruption and bribery stop in a country that was founded on the basis of Islam which promotes accountability and justice for all?  When will the embedded deep state that operates in Pakistan be forced to put a stop to all this madness, and why haven’t they been stopped already?

Let’s not forget that, although the British Empire which colonised the whole region was ended decades ago, it stripped the people of dignity and self-respect.  Once that was done it was very hard for people to trust any kind of leadership, let alone hold a corrupt leadership to account.

What has made the Ummah spineless when it comes to the accountability of our leaders?  

Imran Khan spoke for freedom of Palestinians. He also spoke about Islamophobia, proving that he not only speaks up for Pakistanis, but also for Muslims worldwide. For this reason, he was hated by many.  It is precisely for this reason that the Ummah should defend him.
