Next week, on the Thursday 22nd April, Parliament will be debating and voting on a motion to declare that a genocide of Uyghur Muslims is under way in the Xinjiang province in China. 

The motion states: “This house believes the Uyghurs and other ethnic and religious minorities in the Xinjiang region are suffering crimes against humanity and genocide.”

It also calls on the government to fulfil its obligations under the convention on the prevention of genocide and other instruments of international law to bring it to an end.

It is an Islamic obligation upon us all to do what we can to speak out and act against the oppression of Muslims.
