Since the BJP came to power earlier this decade, they have systematically and brutally cracked down on any form dissent and criticism of their regime and draconian and genocidal polices.

In addition to the general dissemination of Islamophobia by various media platforms and politicians, demonisation, arrests and harassment has been handed out to opposition party members, human rights defenders, student leaders, anti-Islamophobia campaigners, Dalit rights campaigners, trade unionists, writers, lawyers, artists, academics and journalists.

This has also involved militarised police violence and arrests justified by the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, originating from the British colonial period.  

Amnesty International has called upon the UN, its member states and international governments to hold the Indian Government to account. We must do our part to mobilise political dissent against the BJP and their neo-Nazi ideology of Hindu Nationalism.
