ACTION ALERT: DEMAND SANCTIONS ON IRAN ARE LIFTED TO COMBAT CORONAVIRUS
At the time of writing, Iran has reported to have over 17,000 infected and 1,135, making it one of the highly impacted countries in the world.
Punitive sanctions on Iran has meant an acute shortage in medicine and equipment, only accelerating the spread of the virus.
On Thursday 19 March, an Iranian health ministry official, Kianoush Jahanpour, stated that a person is dying every 10 minutes and 50 people are being infected every 50 minutes.
Hospitals are overwhelmed. Charities are struggling. Even attempts to build more clinics is stunted because of the sanctions.
To impose such sanctions now would lead to a humanitarian disaster and serves no political purpose. In fact it only puts the world increasingly at risk by allowing the virus to spread.
The US administration has imposed fresh sanctions. The UK should not comply.
