Qari Asim MBE, the Imam for Leeds Makkah Mosque, is due to speak on 30th January 2020 at an event organised by the extremely pro-Israel organisation, Board of Deputies (BoD).

Imam Qari Asim is also the Chairman of MINAB and Senior Editor of Imams Online, which has collaborated with Prevent.

The event has been organised by the BoD and the World Uyghur Congress to highlight the oppression of Uyghur Muslims by China.

The BoD been at the forefront of campaigning to stop the showcasing of a pro-Palestinian film, Israeli Apartheid Week (IAW) events across 30 Universities in the UK, put pressure on Universities, such as UCL, to take disciplinary action against students protesting against Israel.

Their senior members have been seen sharing platforms with the extreme, right-wing Zionist group, Jewish Defence League and share their public anti-BDS stance.

Discussing the oppression of Uyghur Muslims is extremely important but why does Imam Qari Asim have to share a platform with, and give legitimacy to, a pro-Israel organisation like the BoD, that legitimises the oppression of Palestinians?

Does he support the propaganda and work of the Board of Deputies?

The event was initially hosted at Regent’s Park Mosque, however, after facing pressure they pulled out of hosting the event, and it is now being held in the House of Commons.

Despite ongoing pressure, Imam Qari Asim, has refused to condemn the Board of Deputies. He seems adamant on sharing a platform with them at this event.

CAMPAIGN UPDATE:- 02/02/2020
After about a week of deciding to pull out in hosting the BoD event at their venue after receiving pressure from the wider Muslim communities, Regents Park Mosque released a statement stating they are looking to host a BoD event later in the year and the reason for cancelling was because of a “busy schedule”.

Activists who pressured the Masjid have said that they only released that statement to save face.

Qari Asim’s Masjid in Leeds, Makkah Masjid, replied to a tweet stating they support Qari Asim in his attending of the event organised by the BoD, despite the obvious moral inconsistencies of sharing a platform who are upholding genocide of one people whilst trying to champion another against genocide.

The tweet was “liked” and “retweeted” by MINAB also.

We still encourage people to message Qari Asim and his associative organisations to have them explain what good would come from collaborating with Zionists.
