Earlier this year, a number of Muslim households received a “Punish-a-Muslim Day” letter, detailing a point-scoring table and fixing the date to be on the 3^rd of April.

Police said that they had received “no credible information” that hate crimes would take place but added officers remained on alert for potential incidents.

MPACUK spokesperson, Imran Shah, said:

“The bitter irony of ‘Punish a Muslim Day’ is that not a day goes by when Muslims are being attacked simply for being Muslim, whether it’s at home or globally in the so-called ‘War on Terror’.

We urge Muslims, and our non-Muslim allies, to draw upon the history of Bosnia and demand equality for Muslims in the face of all undermining factors. This includes resistance against discriminatory counter-extremism programmes, an unethical racist media or politicians that use Islamophobia as political capital.”
