MPACUK have been alerted to an event taking place in Dewsbury in relation to the recent Westminster attack:

Why is The Peace Institute normalising Prevent by promoting the flawed counter-terrorism work currently happening and why have they provided Kirklees Council’s Prevent contact number?

It is deeply disappointing and shocking that a Muslim organisation does not offer critical analysis of the Prevent strategy – a strategy that demonises Muslims, especially Muslim children.

It is equally shocking that The Peace Institute is taking ownership of the Westminster incident even though police have reported that the motive is unknown.

Why are they so desperate to prove that Muslims are against killing innocent people? Isn’t that obvious? The appear so apologetic and it does not represent what most Muslims want from our institutions.

Do they show the same level of concern or action when Muslims are demonised and attacked? Do they organise events, call MPs and Police down and demand more is done? We seriously

1. Why are you giving Prevent a platform, despite it being driven by a government which continues to reject critical feedback from Muslim organisations, trade unions and hundred of academics?

2. Why are you bringing religion into the Westminster attack when we do not know the motive of the attacker? The attacker had a history of violence – why are you making his religion such an important part of the story? Why are you so apologetic in your actions?

3. There has been a sharp increase in anti-Muslim hate crime in the UK. Will you commit to being just as vocal and organised in discussing this in the local community? If yes, prove it by putting together an action plan and who we need to contact to hold them to account about this plan.
