Remembrance Sunday supposedly commemorates the soldiers who gave their lives as sacrifice against an evil enemy, in World War One.

This is a lie.

Millions of young men were sent by their governments – on both sides – to die defending the status quo. Villages, towns and lives were destroyed simply because European empire-makers were fed up with facing competitors in their race to pillage Africa, Asia and the Americas.

If Remembrance Sunday, or Remembrance Day, were really what our government makes it out to be, then our government would be the first to prevent wars, to protect civilians and the first to help refugees.

Instead we have had generations of British governments who send armies to oppress other nations, sell arms and enable dictators, and who need to be shamed into helping the victims of their own imperial bloodlust.

What Remembrance Sunday really commemorates is the fact that governments can lie and send a generation to their deaths – and get away with it..
