Since becoming British Home Secretary in September 2025, the MP for Birmingham Ladywood, Shabana Mahmood, has wasted no time in demonstrating her hostility to the pro-Palestine movement in the UK.  After a violent attack on a synagogue in Manchester allegedly carried out by a British-Syrian, she proclaimed that a pro-Palestine march that had already been organised for London should not go ahead.  There was no connection between the participants and organisers of the planned march which was in the name of peace in Palestine and the attack in Manchester.

The march went ahead and to prove how vindictive she is, Mahmood then sought to bring in a new law that would, in future, compel the relevant police service to consider the ‘cumulative impact’ of holding a series of marches.  In other words, create an additional barrier to gain permission to march.  This latest attempt at eroding civil liberties by the Labour party is designed to restrict the right of the pro-Palestine movement to demonstrate peacefully.  The subtext is that there is something implicitly ‘anti-Semitic’ about marching for peace in Palestine.

To add insult to injury, the Labour government then sought to interfere with a policing decision (that is meant to be conducted independently of government) to ban violent hooligans from an Israeli football club, Maccabi Tel Aviv, scheduled to take place in Birmingham.  The police made the decision after taking into account the conduct of the Israeli hooligans in other cities such as Amsterdam and the risk to the local community.  The Labour government (and Israel’s supporters in the media) immediately went into overdrive to interfere in this police matter and pressured the police to reverse the decision.  Why?  Because they support Zionists and they don’t waste any time in wrongly attributing this to anti-Semitism.  Unfortunately for them, they were embarrassed when the hooligans rioted in Israel, proving that the West Midlands Police had made the right decision in the first place.  Even then, the Labour government insisted the hooligans should still be allowed to attend the match in Birmingham.

MPACUK has always maintained the Shabana Mahmood is a terrible MP, and now, a terrible Home Secretary.  She seems to be happily pursuing Labour’s awful agenda to erode hard-won personal freedoms in favour of Israel.  She’s targeting the pro-Palestine movement in the UK in an effort to rob the Palestinian people of much needed support and solidarity by attempting to characterise them as anti-Semitic.  It is a fact that all the pro-Palestine marches in the UK have had Jewish participants and speakers, but for supporters of Israel, they’re the ‘wrong type’ of Jew.  They can think critically and aren’t blindly in support of Israel and want to demonstrate their solidarity with the Palestinian people.

MPACUK calls for the removal of Shabana Mahmood as MP for Birmingham Ladywood at the next general election.  Muslims voters deserve better MPs than her.  We want an MP that is sincere, trustworthy and someone who takes the idea of protecting civil liberties seriously.  Nothing less will do.
