Earlier this week, The Sun published a comment piece by Trevor Kavanagh explicitly asking the reader “What will we do about the Muslim Problem then?”.

It goes without saying that if anyone were to mention “the Jewish Problem” or “the Black Problem”, they would be swiftly held to account.

There has been outrage by the public about Kavanagh’s language and his comments have been compared to that Nazis used with Jews during their rise to power.

There is so much anger about his article that over 100 MPs from across the political spectrum have signed a letter damning The Sun and demanding action for the use of “Nazi-like language”.

Kavanagh holds a position on the board of the press regulator Independent Press Standards Organisation, IPSO.

A journalist who openly demonises Muslims and immigrants should not have a position in an organisation that regulates the press itself.

Even more so, when the same regulator has correct Kavanagh for misinformation he has been spreading (see The Sun’s corrections for previous articles by Kavanagh here and here).

His presence undermines the credibility of IPSO and if he is allowed to remain in his position it will mean less minorities will have confidence in IPSO’s ability to do their job.
