After MPACUK’ successful campaign in getting a Prevent-promoting event cancelled in Dewsbury, we have been conducting an investigation into which other Muslim institutions have links to Prevent.

The Prevent strategy is a problem for the Muslim community because it treats us as suspects and even calls for Muslim children to be spied on to make sure they are not being “radicalised”.

It has also been widely criticised and condemned by hundreds of academics, public service professionals and trade unions.

The Institute of Race Relations said the Prevent scheme had been used “to establish one of the most elaborate systems of surveillance ever seen in Britain”.

As part of our investigation we have found that a madrassa (Islamic school) in Blackburn – the Abu Hanifah Foundation – explicitly mentions Prevent as part of it’s Safeguarding Policy.

No one has an issue with having safeguarding policies but why is Prevent explicitly mentioned?

There is no legal obligation to have Prevent as part of your safeguarding policy so why has Abu Hanifah Foundation done so?

Worryingly, Abu Hanifah Foundation’s CEO and Founder, Imtiyaz Damiel, seems to have close links to Faith Associates too – an organisation that has been closely linked with Prevent for a number of years (and received Prevent funding in the past).

How close is he to this controversial organisation?

Is Abu Hanifah Foundation supportive of Prevent? Even though it has caused the Muslim community so many problems?
