The Muslim Public Affairs Committee UK (MPACUK) have contacted the Department of Education to inquire what action they will take about revelations that Combat 18, a white supremacist organisation, is recruiting teachers in Birmingham schools to help them reach children with their racist cause.

Nigel Bromage, a former member of Combat 18, has come forward and revealed documents from the neo-Nazi group outlining the drive to take their fight to classrooms across the UK, seeking to recruit teachers as people with influence.

The group aims to get teachers, once recruited, to ask students provocative nationalistic questions, priming them for recruiters distributing far-right pamphlets at the school gates.

Bromage believes that the threat from fascism is greater than ever before, due to the rise in open racism and hate crimes after the Brexit vote.

MPACUK are calling upon school leaders, Local Education Authorities, Ofsted and the Department of Education to take this matter seriously. It is clear that the rapidly growing white supremacist movement in the UK is intent on targeting teenagers with their message of hate.

Catherine Heseltine, MPACUK’s spokesperson and mother of two young children, said,

“As a mother, it is extremely worrying that White Supremacists are systematically trying to infiltrate our school system. The danger is that the authorities are viewing ‘radicalisation’ with a narrow focus almost exclusively on the Muslim community and are blind to the extent of the danger posed by violent white extremists.

“The Government had been at pains to stop the so-called ‘Trojan Horse’ scandal in Birmingham, which turned out to be a fabrication, so we hope that they will investigate this matter with the same intensity they showed when it was alleged that Muslim extremists were infiltrating Birmingham schools.”

MPACUK have been in contact with the Department of Education and are waiting for a reply.
