After Donald Trump’s disgusting comments, calling for a complete ban on Muslims coming to USA, two petitions were set up.

One was to get the British Government to ban him from coming to the UK

The other was demanding that Robert Gordon University (Aberdeen) stripped Trump of his honorary degree

MPACUK helped mobilise Muslims around the country to show their disgust at Trump’s Islamophobic comments and sign both petitions.

SUCCESS!

The first petition has reached over 250,000 signatures! This means that Parliament must consider this for a debate.

The second petition has led to pressure on Robert Gordon University and they have revoked his honorary degree because “…Mr Trump has made a number of statements that are wholly incompatible with the ethos and values of the university…”.

Well done to everyone who signed and shared these petitions – it shows that we can make our views heard when it comes to hate-preachers.

Even though MPACUK does not believe in banning any speakers, even extremists like Donald Trump, if the UK Government has banned Muslim speakers like Dr Zakir Naik for “unacceptable behaviour”, then they should apply this same thinking & legislation to ALL, not just Muslims.

We eagerly await the Government’s response –  we’re pretty sure by Theresa May’s definition, Trump would be called a “non-violent extremist”, but we’ll wait and see if this language is only reserved for Muslims…
