SUCCESS! Islamophobic Councillor Suspended Following MPACUK Campaign!
A Councillor who abused a Muslim activist for organising a Gaza fundraiser has been SUSPENDED from the Labour Party after a MPACUK campaign.
Councillor Mark Hackett, of Manchester, accused the Muslim activist of being an ISIS sleeper cell.
Manchester City Council found him guilty of abusing the Muslim activist but the Council has delayed the disciplinary process for over a year.
A MPACUK campaign activated people to contact the Council & Labour Party about the Councillor’s Islamophobic abuse.
Because of our campaign, we received this response today from the Compliance Officer at Labour Party’s HQ:
“Thank you for your recent correspondence. Councillor Hackett has been suspended from the Labour Party whilst investigations into this matter are conducted.”
Alhamdulillah!
This success was thanks to the hundreds who shared our Action Alert and contacted the Labour Party.
It sends out a strong message that Muslims will not tolerate being abused and treated like second-class citizens.
We highlighted in our campaign that in other cases where someone was abusive or racist, the Labour Party was quick to act but when it came to a Muslim being a victim of abuse, things were delayed for over a year!
We pray that this MPACUK campaign success inspires more Muslims to speak out against Islamophobia and demand that we are treated as equal, respected citizens of this country.
These campaigns are only possible thanks to your support – if you want MPACUK to keep having success in tackling Islamophobia and standing up for our rights, please keep donating to MPACUK.
